This quilt was brought to me to quilt by Carol Reid. Carol is a special person and Nis able to take just about anything and put it into a quilt. For this particular quilt she had a friend whose family member had passed away. She was able to take some of their favorite clothes including his favorite moccasin shoes, baseball cap, the actual clothing he was wearing when he passed away including the tongue from the camo boots including the shoe laces, and the t-shirt, flannel shirt with the collar and the buttons! Not only has Carol sewed all this into the quilt but she got all the items in each block of the quilt to line up and lay perfectly flat and so easy for me to quilt for her. She does beautiful work. This quilt will be on display and will be treasured for years to come.
This quilt is so amazing I took some close up pictures so that you can appreciate all that has gone into this quilt and what it will mean to this family. Here we have his favorite cap, and camoflauge pants, also how about those favorite moccasins he wore around the house everyday! this picture you get a full view of that shoe. (who can sew a shoe into a quilt? Carol Reid can and will!) Looks like he's been to the Hard Rock Cafe in Singapore. More camoflauge pants. Lets scroll down and take another look. Now the next picture you see will be the actual T-shirt with the flannel shirt over it along with the tongue of the boots he was wearing and don't forget the shoe lace is there too! Now I have seen and quilted alot of T-shirt quilts, memory quilts with pictures, but I have never quilted one that had the T shirt with the flannel shirt and the collar and buttons still attached. I guess there is a first time for everything! This quilt had it all. From head to toe, shoes, jeans, t shirts, camo, badges and patches even a spot where he had dropped a cigarette on his pants and burnt a hole in them and yes the burned hole is there I just stitched around it. After all I am sure there is a story for that too. Now if YOU have memories you want to save, special memories you want to share and keep forever. Scroll down and take a look at the t-shirt and flannel shirt along with the boot! Start thinking about saving all those t-shirts your special someone is wearing everyday, how about those shoes with the holes in the toes, or the soles wore out you may want to preserve all those special items for your own memory quilt. These quilts make great graduation gifts too. Combine t-shirts with pictures. You have t-shirts from the football game, how about a picture of you and all your friends at that game, a band t shirt, pictures of the band, graduation picture, piece of that prom dress, cheerleading outfit. Don't know how or where to get started? Think Carol Reid, she is waiting to take your order! Drop me an email at mburnette912@bellsouth.net and I will gladly forward your email to Carol. She will contact you with what she will need to get your special memory quilt started just for you. What I should say is not only for you, because you will treasure this quilt for years to come and it will be looked at, talked over for generations to come. A priceless gift for anyone!

memory quilt

Carol Reid brought me this quilt to quilt for her this past week. It amazes me the sheer talent this woman has to peice anything into a quilt and get everything to line up and most importantly to lay nice and flat so that I can quilt it. Carol explained to me that she had a dear friend who had a family member pass away. This friend wanted something she could display to represent the person who had passed away. Carol not only took the mans favorite clothing, hats and shoes but also the clothing he was wearing the day he passed away and put them into this quilt. I was amazed at the workmanship, and I know her friend and their family will treasure this quilt forever.

HAPPY EASTER!

First I want to say Happy Easter to everyone! I hope that you all were able to spend at least a few hours with your family today. I wish each and every one of you all of God's richest blessing!

We started with Kumiloom disc, but now have found out that you can make flat braids with the kumihimo plate. Needless to say we had to have both and a book. She has just informed me that if we are going to make bracelets and necklaces , she would like some beads, all different colors, shapes and sizes and some clasp to glue on to the ends so we don't have to tie them, oh maybe we can try some stretchy elastic bands......I think I have created a braiding monster! Anyway we are off to do some shopping. Anything for a grandchild!
hmmm..... How many kinds of threads, yarns and embellishments does one child need to make a couple bracelets???? Oh she has informed me that she is now trading key chains at school.... lol............
One of the woman at the quilt retreat taught us how to start Japanese Braiding (Kumihimo). I decided this would be a great thing I could teach my 11 year old grand daughter so we could spend more quality time together. She has already made and quilted two quilts but I don't think the quilt bug has hit her yet.
