have you ever had a moment when a customer walks in the door and hands you something to quilt and your jaw kinda drops to the ground in amazement. This is exactly what happened to me when a woman I had never met before walked into my shop with her husband and said that she had been referred to me to quilt a special quilt for her. A T-Shirt quilt which was also her first quilt!
Now as soon as I heard t-shirt and the words my first quilt together, I thought, "oh my", we have all had the people that walk in carring their t-shirts quilts that come in the door half stablized, lots of fullness in the blocks and you are dreading quilting this because you just know it is going to cause you all kinds of headaches when you get it on the machine.
Well I have to tell you this was definitely NOT one of them. This quilt was a retirement quilt for a gentleman (her husband) who had spent his entire career serving our country. This quilt represented his whole life of service. He had shirts from all over the world, all the patches that he had earned and parts of his uniforms. It was truely a moving experience to know that she trusted me with his most valued possessions. I hope you will be able to click on the pictures to enlarge them for a better view. Now you just won't believe this but I promise you it's true. She and her husband put this quilt together in one night, yes that's right one night! He cut and pressed while she did the sewing.
All was brought to me the next day to be quilted and it was perfectly squared up, all the blocks were well stabilized and laid nice and flat.
